“Jonas is done for this year" - Visma confirm that Vingegaard will not race in 2024 any more

There were already big hints that it would be the case but seemingly it has been confirmed today. Jonas Vingegaard has ended his season. After the Tour de France he raced the Clásica San Sebastián and the Tour de Pologne and will not race again in the 2024 season.

American news outlet Velo has reported that a representative of the Dutch team said the following: “Jonas is done for this year. His wife will soon give birth to their second child and as an athlete he needs to recuperate after an intense spring and summer.”

This was already a pre-planned scenario. Last year Vingegaard rode the Vuelta a España after the Tour de France and rode to a second place - that could've been a win, if only it wasn't his own teammate Sepp Kuss leading most of the race.

This year a similar scenario could definitely be on the table and he would be a big favourite to win the Vuelta, but it was already known that he was likely to have a child during the race. Hence, he prolonged his summer calendar a bit more to include those two races - with success, as he won the GC in Pologne - but a break was planned after. There is no plan to resume racing now until 2025 after a year full of ups and downs for the Dane.
