Jasper Philipsen lost a chance to fight for second consecutive stage win at his home Baloise Belgium Tour as he was involved in a fall near the finish. Unluckily for the Alpecin-Deceuninck sprinter, this happened outside the safe 3 km zone. The Belgian escaped without any major injuries and will able to continue.
Philipsen went down together with his fellow sprinter Caleb Ewan. "Caleb and I hooked eachother, after which a fall was unavoidable," Philipsen told Het Nieuwsblad. "Obviously you can't put things right so close to the finish, but I've been happy for a long time that the damage isn't too bad."
"My jaw hurts a bit and I have some abrasions on my left elbow and left shoulder. But my further participation in this stage race will certainly not be jeopardized," said the 25-year old rider.
