"It's so off" - Robbie McEwen responds to Visma criticism coming from Jonas Vingegaard's wife

Jonas Vingegaard’s surprised the media when in an interview, she suggested Visma | Lease a Bike should only focus on the yellow jersey at the Tour de France, pushing aside the ambitions of his teammates (and mainly Wout Van Aert) at the on-going Tour de France.

"The interview by his wife in the Danish press: her criticism of the team, their training techniques and how much he has to be away from home - during the first week of the Tour de France... it's so off," Robbie McEwen was amazed by Trine Vingegaard Hansen's openness in a retrospective during The Breakaway podcast.

Some contents should've not been shared with the outside world, McEwen things: "It's certainly not a discussion for a public forum, it's something to do in private and ideally outside of the racing season. Definitely outside of the Tour de France."

Perhaps she meant to help Jonas gain a more steady position within the team and in the eyes of public, but some of her statements could've hurt his image instead: "It's just an unnecessary thing going on in the Tour life of Jonas Vingegaard at the moment. Let's face it, everybody is talking about it in the cycling world."

"It was also interesting that she said the team should be fully focused on him," noted guest pundit Owain Doull (EF Education-EasyPost) on The Breakaway. McEwen added: "And not Wout getting any chances during the Tour. I mean, come on."
