"It's a surprise to see this stage played out in a sprint" - Benoit Cosnefroy secures over victory at the Tour des Alpes Maritimes

In a brilliant finale for the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team, Benoit Cosnefroy took the stage 2 victory at the Tour des Alpes Maritimes ahead of teammate, Aurelien Paret-Peintre, securing the overall win in the process.

"I had confidence in myself," reflected the 28-year-old Frenchman in his post-stage interview. "I was at the back of the group, Aurélien Paret-Peintre pulled me up superbly, and in fact he was second. I believed in it until the end and I didn't get up because we know we can get overtaken from behind."

"It's a surprise to see this stage played out in a sprint, even if you never know how it's going to go," Cosnefroy concludes. "With the bonuses taken yesterday by Jordan Labrosse and Aurélien Paret-Peintre, we were comfortable, we didn't have the pressure of the race. We knew we could play my card in the sprint and that's what happened, it's perfect!"
