"It is good that I was able to show my form and still give the team a victory" - Jay Vine takes 'consolation prize' of stage win after dropping out of GC contention at the Tour of Turkey

Just a few days after falling completely out of general classification contention on the brutal ascent of the Badabag, Jay Vine has bounced back in style with a solo win on stage 7.

“This was 90 percent anger and 10 percent happiness,” the UAE Team Emirates man laughed in his post-stage interview. “I went all out for the stage victory. I could also have reached the mountain points a bit easier, without starting from the foot of the climb. But it was all about the stage.”

Whilst he hasn't been able to keep up a general classification, this stage win and in turn taking control of the King of the Mountains classification, Vine has ensured that he won't leave Turkey with completely empty pockets.

“I completely exhausted myself. When the team leader came to me and said I had fifty seconds with eight kilometres to go, I thought: that should be enough as long as I keep going,” Vine recaps. "After dropping out of the Vuelta, this was a chance to end the season on a good note. I trained quite hard. To then come here and have bad luck all week, with stomach problems on stage three and a flat tire yesterday… This is a bit of a consolation prize, but it is good that I was able to show my form and still give the team a victory.”
