Primoz Roglic is a three-time former Vuelta a Espana champion and his quest to make that a fourth sees a big early challenge on stage 6. With Remco Evenepoel in the Red Jersey, the question is, will he remain in the race lead by the end of the day?
"If Remco Evenepoel wants to give up his red jersey? I'm willing to take it, but I don't think he wants to give it to me," the Slovenian of Jumbo-Visma laughs when asked about the Evenepoel debate in his pre-stage interview. "There are a lot of guys interested in taking the jersey, so we can expect a long battle to take the breakaway."
Roglic does have some previous experience with the final climb of the day atop the Pico del Buitre, having previously raced up it back in 2019.
"I don't really remember, but I saw the video," Roglic explains. "It was a difficult climb. You'll have to have the legs to be with the best at the top, especially since the climb is a bit irregular. It will obviously be an important day for the general classification. It doesn't matter if the breakaway goes to the end or if we play the win, we will have to be present."
