42 riders up the road as breakaway finally forms on stage 6 of the Vuelta a Espana!

There were many theories and queries heading into stage 6 of the 2023 Vuelta a Espana. Would Remco Evenepoel pass on the Red Jersey? Would the GC riders battle it out for the stage win? We more than likely already have the answer to both those questions.

After an incredibly fast start, a breakaway has now finally formed after over an hour of full gas racing. Rather than calling it a breakaway however, a better term for this lead group may be 'supergroup'. A grand total of 42 riders are up the road ahead of the peloton and already can boast an advantage of over four minutes on the road.

Lenny Martinez, who started the day in third overall is the best placed in the general classification of the riders up front. Other notable names in the group include the likes of Sepp Kuss, Marc Soler, Santiago Buitrago, Mikel Landa, Juan Pedro Lopez, Hugh Carthy, Romain Bardet and David de la Cruz, including many more.
