Following another exhilarating edition of Paris-Roubaix, Max Walscheid of Cofidis improved on his 12th-placed finish in 2021 for his best career result at the Hell of the North to come across the line in 8th and the German is over the moon.
"I think I was very strong. I took the opportunity to follow the favourites in the Trouée d'Arenberg because almost all the favourites were already in front, so we had to catch them," the 29-year-old Cofidis rider revealed following the race's conclusion. "Then in Mons-en-Pévèle I think I made a small mistake, because I tried to anticipate the attacks, but in the end, it cost me too much energy."
Despite the fact the former Nokere Koerse runner-up couldn't stay in touch right until the final, Walscheid was quick to express the delight he felt with his placing. "I'm super happy, a top 10 is amazing. I had a good day and I was also very motivated," he explains.
"The team was expecting a good result from me, I was under a lot of pressure," the former Tour de Langkawi stage winner continues. "So I am very happy with the outcome and to show why I'm leading the Cofidis team in Paris-Roubaix."
