Team Visma | Lease a Bike were active and antagonistic at the front of the peloton in the finale of stage 2 at the 2025 Tour de France, with both Matteo Jorgenson and Jonas Vingegaard attacking in an attempt to put the pressure on Tadej Pogacar.
Ultimately, they weren't able to crack the UAE Team Emirates - XRG leader, but there were nevertheless plenty of positives for Jorgenson, Vingegaard and Visma. "I just followed them," Jorgenson said of the late flurry of attacks in conversation with CyclingUpToDate and the rest of the assembled media at the finish line.
Although Vingegaard finished 3rd behind Pogacar and Van der Poel however, Jorgenson crossed the line in 18th, out of the fight for the stage win. According to Jorgenson himself, it was a tactical error that ruled him out. "Yeah, probably, in hindsight, I should’ve committed," he notes.
And whilst Pogacar might not have been the attacking force we've become accustomed to seeing over recent years, Jorgenson is in no doubt about the Slovenian's strength. "He felt pretty good — second on the stage. I think he, uh... yeah. Well, I lost him," Jorgenson analyses with a wry smile, when a lack of Pogacar fireworks are mentioned.
