After fourteen days of racing in the Vuelta a España, Mikel Landa is in seventh place in the general classification. He mainly owes this to taking part in the early breakaway of stage six. The Basque gained a lot of time this way and was able to defend good position so far. After the stage to Larra-Belagua won by Remco Evenepoel, he spoke to EsCiclismo about the upcoming stages in the Spanish stage race.
"It was impossible to attack," said the future teammate of Remco Evenepoel. "Jumbo-Visma is extremely dominant and it is very difficult to surprise them. They control from start to finish."
The 33-year-old rider certainly looks ahead with great ambition to what is to come in the remainder of the Vuelta. "I would really like to win another stage," he does not hide his goals. "And there are real opportunities presenting themselves. I'm mainly talking about the ride to the Angliru or the one to La Cruz de Linares."
Despite the fact that the yellow and black dominance, Landa still expects a spectacle. "Although it seems on television that not much is happening, something good will really happen in the coming days. There will still be a lot of racing." Landa has also indicated that he would like to work with Juan Ayuso, Enric Mas and Marc Soler - numbers four, five and six respectively in the battle for the red - to try to make it difficult for Jumbo-Visma. "I hope we cheer each other up, understand each other and achieve something."
