"I got a tip from a few guys when to attack..." - Unibet youngster shocks favourites in Norway to secure maiden professional victory

After over a month, the Unibet Rose Rockets get to celebrate yet again. Cedric Bakke Christophersen secured the team's tenth triumph of the season with his maiden professional victory in the final stage of the 2026 Arctic Race of Norway.
The French formation brought a strong team to the Norwegian race. Led by former overall runner-up Odd Christian Eiking and Wout Poels, the Rockets aimed high in the general classification in absence of world's biggest names. But it was the 24-year-old Christophersen who stole spotlight on the last day of racing.
"Nerve-wracking final kilometer to watch, but HE DID IT!" team owner Bas Tietema cheered on Christophersen via X as he rounded off the team's first ten professional victories.
Christophersen himself was obviously just as pleased to finally see his work come to fruition. The Norwegian only switched to road cycling full-time in 2023 after years of competing in triathlon. His talent was soon recognized by Tietema's team, but it's taken additional two and half seasons to deliver on his potential.

"I have been dreaming of this for a very long time, and to take this win here on home soil is truly incredible. I got a tip from a few guys that normally the best riders attack and that, when they slow down, the peloton usually slows down too. So that is the best moment to attack," said the Norwegian.
It was Thomas Gachignard (TotalEnergies) who opened the finale with early acceleration, to which Christophersen quickly responded. He immediately gained a notable advantage on hesitant groups of favourites and held on to his lead until finish line.
"At that moment, I just felt I had to go. I saw immediately that no one was following, and from there it was full throttle to the finish. To win here on home soil is incredible, and with so many fans along the road, it makes it even more special," concludes Christophersen.

The 2026 Arctic Race of Norway was won by Guillermo Thomas Silva (XDS Astana) ahead of Lennert Van Eetvelt (Lotto-Intermarché) and Alessandro Pinarello (NSN). Unibet's best finisher was Wout Poels in 7th, closely followed by today's surprise winner Christophersen who moved up to 8th thanks to his victory.

- Oh jeez, you really have something against these people don’t you? Jonas races and performs enough for what he gets, he is watched and “enjoyed” by millions which is why he gets that salary. Very few of us regular people can attract the attention these guys get FROM US which is why no-one pays regular jobs well. If you’re against that system, be more like me and stop watching.in a way that enriches the system, same as football and worse, golf (just as examples), stop drinking Red Bull, driving Tesla, guzzling petrol, etc. As for Trine, you didn’t get it because YOU focus on money too much, she’s smart in the motherly sense (you know, as in instinctive protection (of children) in that after aeeing the results of cycling she’s trying to make sure Jonas doesn’t end up like Finlay or like Sepp just almost did but nobody actually reflected on longer than 10 seconds, partly because the vast majority of active fans aren’t mothers, partly because if you do, you almost can’t make it in the sport, especially the way it is going. Jonas can race what he wants to race, or not. his choice. but I draw the line at the sympathy card of “oh I want to be around my kids”. - Happy for you then, just can’t understand why a family man would not admire Jonas a bit more. I’d like to have seen Tadej juggling it all around and telling Urska to stay at home for the kids. - Clearly, and had there been no Tadej or had he been born another time, he’d be the one with most Tdf wins ever. Someone (abstractengineer?) once spoke of the impossibility of having two riders of Tadej’s level at the same time but aside potentially Seixas, we actually have been witnessing two of the best ever GT riders competing at the same time.Mistermaumau16-08-2026
