"I get more satisfaction from doing a good work for a great leader" - Davide Formolo forfeits his GC ambitions

Before packing his bags for Movistar, Davide Formolo took some time to evaluate on his eventful final season in the UAE Team Emirates jersey, talking to the MARCA newspaper.

Did Davide Formolo leave to satisfy his personal ambitions? "I don't want to be the leader at a Grand Tour. I get more satisfaction from doing a good work for a great leader." Either way, the 2nd man of the 2020 Strade Bianche would still like to have his share of opportunities in the classics and one-day races.

Winner of Veneto Classic and Coppa Agostoni this fall, Formolo spoke about his very promising end to the 2023 season. "After my crash in Poland, I had time to train well. We wanted to win the UCI ranking and I found myself getting more opportunities up front."

On the subject of racing with Nairo Quintana he says: "I think it's a good opportunity to have another leader in races when Enric is not around." Formolo does not yet have his 2024 planned out, but the Tour de France is in the back of his mind: "I know the Monaco passes well." However, the major objective for the Italian remains to gain trust of his new team.
