"I can fight for the White Jersey" - Santiago Buitrago reveals Tour de France ambition

After four years of Tadej Pogacar dominance in the White Jersey classification at the Tour de France, the Slovenian turning 25 now allows the competition to open up once again. Hoping to be front of the list is Santiago Buitrago.

The 24-year-old Colombian is yet to ever race the Tour de France, but in 2024 he hopes that will change. “A few days ago the team called me to ask which races I would like to do in 2024," the Bahrain - Victorious rider says in conversation with Bici.Pro. "I didn't beat around the bush and said that I would like to go to the Tour de France."

Completing two Grand Tours in 2023, Buitrago took a stage win en route to a 13th placed overall finish at the Giro d'Italia and secured a finish of tenth overall at the Vuelta a Espana.

"I've done the Giro, I've done the Vuelta. I think it's time to do the Tour," Buitrago continues positively and sounding ready for the opportunity. "I want to see how it goes. Now that Pogacar is a year older and is no longer eligible for the youth jersey, I can fight for the white jersey.”
