Matteo Trentin was in a promising position heading into the finale of the World Championships road race. Sadly a badly timed crash ruled the Italian out of the running.
Thankfully for Trentin though, as reported by Ciro Scognamiglio - a well-respected journalist from La Gazzetta dello Sport - the 34-year-old has managed to come away from the crash fracture free.
With around 85km to go, Trentin had been alongside the top competitors but as he tackled the short and steep Montrose Street, the former European Champion was forced to miss out on an opportunity of taking the Rainbow Jersey.
According to Ciro Scognamiglio, the likely return date for Trentin will be at the
Renewi Tour as the Italian continues to wind down his
UAE Team Emirates contract before he joins Tudor Pro Cycling Team for the 2024 season.
