Guillaume Martin has taken his first victory in the colours of
Groupama - FDJ, holding onto the solo win at
Classic Grand Besançon Doubs 2025 following a monstrous effort on the final climb.
Following an early break that included Tom Portsmouth, Loe van Belle and Vinzent Dorn, heading into the final 40km, Van Belle was still out front but now with a different group of riders for company - Johannes Kulset, Louis Rouland, Fabien Doubey and Theo Delacroix. By 15km to go though, all the attackers had been caught, with the peloton in full preparation mode ahead of the final ascent at Montfaucon.
As the final climb began just inside the last 4km, the peloton was still a relatively large group, with around 60 riders in total. Given the average slopes were 8.9% however, a big bunch arriving at the line together was unlikely. The first big attack came from Guillaume Martin at around 2.2km from the line. Jordon Jegat was quickly out in chase of his compatriot, but was caught at 1.4km to go. Martin however, continued on, going through the flamme rouge solo out front and as it turned out, his lead proved enough as the Frenchman held on for victory ahead of Jose Manuel Diaz and Clement Berthet.
