Jhonatan Narvaez on the podium after winning stage 4 of the 2026 Giro d'Italia
As riders enjoy a well-earned Giro d'Italia rest day after a brutal first week featuring mountain-top finishes, gruelling weather conditions, serious crashes and hectic sprints, fans are reflecting on an action-packed nine stages while some teams may be counting their winnings from prizes.
Although not the primary focus for teams and riders among the daily duties of a grand tour like the Giro, a massive €1.6 million euros will be given to teams over the course of various prizes and classifications over the three weeks. This will be given as a basis of the following classifications: Overall; Points; KOM; Youth and Teams. Furthermore, prizes are attributed for the Intermediate sprints, Red Bull Kilometer, longest breakaways and combativity awards.
Winning the Giro is worth a whopping €265,000 on top of the coveted Maglia Rosa and is sure to be a big motivation for Afonso Eulálio as he seeks to hold on to the lead despite two stage wins from a fast-approaching Jonas Vingagaard. The Portugeuse climber holds a lead of two minutes and twenty-four seconds over the Dane while Felix Gall is just under three minutes behind.

UAE Team Emirates - XRG scoop major prizes

Despite crashes seeing key riders Adam Yates, Jay Vine and Marc Soler going home after just two stages, UAE Team Emirates - XRG have bounced back emphatically to dominate the remaining breakaway-won stages. The team have won three stages thanks to Igor Arrieta and two from Jhonatan Narvaez, and will be taking home just over €50,000 home so far.
Paul Magnier's Soudal - Quickstep are next in the leaderboard after the Frenchman's two stage wins. XDS Astana aren't far behind in third thanks to all-round performances while Vingegaard's two wins bolstered Team Visma | Lease a Bike's tally.
Of course there's plenty more money for teams to earn with a variety of challenging stages and the overall classifications yet to be officially decided, but with UAE Team Emirates - XRG likely to target more success, they could be set to reap the rewards and salvage a big prize money payday after a disaster opening weekend.
