The
Giro d'Italia has gone through it's first mountain stage and we there has been a filter on the riders capable of fighting for the overall classification and those who are not. The main favourites all showed good form, but some did better than others.
Primoz Roglic has returned to the pink jersey, but his gap is not comfortable over his main rivals.
After
Juan Ayuso rode way to victory with a seated attack in Tagliacozzo, the Spaniard cut off 14 seconds off the Slovenian (much due to bonifications) and is now in the heels of Roglic. Not just that, but
Isaac del Toro's incredible final climb saw him sprint to second, stealing bonifications from Roglic but also closing the gap slightly - now to 9 seconds only.
From there on the gaps are very small, and yet to be opened up. Antonio Tiberi, Max Poole, Michael Storer, Brandon McNulty, Mathias Vacek, Simon Yates and Richard Carapaz complete the Top10 but this misses riders who've shown great legs today such as Damiano Caruso, Giulio Ciccone and of course Egan Bernal.
