Finishing 2nd on the first stage of the Giro di Sicilia, Vincenzo Albanese in his first race of the year, showed some impressive legs and is understandably happy with the end result.
"It was difficult to fight against so many UAE Team Emirates riders, but I showed that I am very good by winning the sprint behind the winner," the Italian, EOLO-Kometa rider revealed in a post-stage interview with his team's official website. "I felt good, very good, but that’s not enough in the race. First race this year, second place… It’s good, but I’m sure we will do better.”
Stefano Zanatta, Sports Director at EOLO-Kometa was also delighted with the performance of the 26-year-old. “The race went as we thought it would, the guys worked very well and tried to support Alba together. It was a very fast day and we tried to avoid the crashes," he explains. "On the climb, we were well placed and Albanese showed the great physical condition that we saw before his accident."
