Ben O'Connor couldn’t secure any stage victories in
Vuelta a Espana. In the final stage, he finished in 46th position, 11 seconds behind stage winner Juan Sebastián Molano.
Though he maintained consistent performance throughout the tour and secured the 8th spot in GC. “Finishing 8th in the Vuelta a Espana makes me proud,” said O’Connor. He continues, “This is my second top-10 at a grand tour in two years, and it shows the consistency in my results.”
During the first week, he struggled, but his performance improved in the second and third weeks. In order to maintain his overall ranking, he consistently placed himself under the top 25. “I think I will finish where I deserve to be. I had a difficult first week and then started to feel better. The twentieth stage yesterday was not easy for me either; I completely exploded but I managed to keep my place and I am happy about that. These are good efforts and a new experience that I can learn from for the rest of my career,” concluded O’Connor.
