Filippo Ganna & Edoardo Affini for ITT, Giulio Ciccone, Antonio Tiberi and Filippo Zana among others for the road: Italy head to World Championships optimistic

Between the 21st and 29th of September, many of the biggest names in the peloton head to Zurich for the 2024 World Championships. One of those nations with Rainbow Jersey ambitions will be the Italian team, headlined by two-time individual time trial world champion, Filippo Ganna.

Ganna will again be going for victory against the clock, although this time it is a little more difficult to assess the INEOS Grenadiers star's chances, as the 28-year-old hasn't raced since the opening stage of the Renewi Tour on the 28th of August, skipping the recent European Championships. At the Championships in Limburg though, there was still Italian joy in the individual time trial as Edoardo Affini took victory. The Team Visma | Lease a Bike rider will now look to add a world title to his European success.

As for the road race, the Italians take head to Zurich with an eight man lineup full of potential options. Among them, White Jersey winner at the Giro d'Italia earlier this year Antonio Tiberi, former King of the Mountains winner at both the Giro and the Tour de France Giulio Ciccone and former Italian national champion Filippo Zana.

With support coming from the likes of Andrea Bagioli, Mattia Cattaneo, Marco Frigo, Lorenzo Rota, Diego Ulissi and Edoardo Zambanini see a strong Italian block take on the challenge of all-star rivals such as Primoz Roglic, Remco Evenepoel, Tadej Pogacar, Mathieu van der Poel and Tom Pidcock among others.
