Ultimately, the 2023
Giro d'Italia is one that will be looked back on with disappointment by
Movistar Team sprinter,
Fernando Gaviria as the Colombian missed out on taking a stage win.
"I was wrong. The team worked perfectly and it makes me sad because they deserved to be given a victory. I'm leaving the Giro disappointed. I think we saw that he had legs today, but as always, I anticipated it," he says after finishing 7th behind stage winner Mark Cavendish in the finale to the Giro d'Italia in Rome. “My nerves got the better of me, the desire to win played a trick on me again. He should have waited, he was in a good position. Deep down there is nothing to regret, because I gave everything I had, but I feel sorry for my teammates."
Now the Giro is over, his goal is to get points and earn the chance to compete for a medal with Colombia at the next Olympic Games:
"We will continue working. An important part of the year is coming, in which to try to collect points for the Paris Games on the track. Rest will be minimal. We will continue working to maintain this state of form and fight for that challenge."
