The second Covid-19 case of today has been identified in Pieter Serry, an important support member for Remco Evenepoel and his defense of the red jersey for Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team.
The Belgian had until now served a purpose in the hilly stages and in an important protection role for the team leaders. As the young Belgian took over the race lead, this role became increasingly more important as the team now carries responsibility of controlling over the days' breakaways.
Serry's abandon also means that Evenepoel will be down to six riders to support, making him more vulnerable to attacks. At the same time, Sepp Kuss left the race this morning which gives rival team Jumbo-Visma less attacking power.
