Elisa Longo Borghini has successfully defended her Maglia Rosa at the
Giro d'Italia Women, backing up her overall victory from 2024 with another triumph in 2025. On the final stage meanwhile,
Liane Lippert took the stage 8 victory.
After a strong breakaway of Lorena Wiebes, Sara Casasola, Amanda Spratt, Mikayla Harvey and Lea Curinier went clear relatively early on in the day, with 20km to go, only Curinier, Harvey and a counter attacking Silke Smulders were clear of the peloton, leading by around 30 seconds.
On the final climb of the day, the Cat 3 Cima Gallisterna, Lieke Nooijen attempted an attack from the peloton, but by 5km to go, all the attackers had been caught by a much diminished Maglia Rosa group. With 12 riders then set to battle it our for the stage win, it was Liane Lippert who took the victory ahead of
Anna van der Breggen and
Marlen Reusser.
