The 2025 UAE Tour Women came to a close on Sunday, ending in a familiar fashion as Lorena Wiebes claimed victory once again. The Team SD Worx - ProTime sprinter, who also won the opening stage, dominated the final sprint after navigating the chaos to seal her second win of the race.
While Wiebes took the stage honours, it was Elisa Longo Borghini who emerged as the overall winner of the UAE Tour Women. The Italian secured the general classification title after four days of racing, delivering a strong performance for UAE Team ADQ.
“I was used to representing Italy and for the first time I found myself representing two countries: Italy and the United Arab Emirates," Longo Borghini said after the race. "I am proud of it, because the UAE Tour is our home race. At the beginning of the season, the team had clearly said that we had to be in shape for this race. But winning the general classification plus second place, the intermediate sprint classification and the team classification is incredible. It is the demonstration of our level and how strong we have been in these four days.”
Reflecting on the final stage, she explained how the team approached the race. “Today we had to sprint with Silvia Persico to get second place in the general classification," she continued. "In the end, we wanted to organize the final sprint for Lara Gillespie. Having the leader's jersey, it was better to be in front and not have problems. Starting off on the right foot is always nice. It's a great motivation for the next races.”
At 33 years old, Longo Borghini has built an impressive palmares so far, including victories at Paris-Roubaix and Strade Bianche. Following this strong start to the season, she will be hoping to carry this momentum into the spring, targeting more big results in the coming months.
