Egan Bernal and Daniel Martínez to represent Colombia at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

Colombia has decided on the riders that it will take to the Paris Olympic Games. Egan Bernal and Daniel Martínez will be the representatives for the men's road race, the BORA - hansgrohe rider will also participate in the time trial; and Paula Patiño, from Movistar Team, will be the only one from the country in the women's race.

Bernal is currently competing in the Tour de Suisse, where he finished fifth in the first high mountain stage, 1 minute behind the day's winner Torstein Traeen, who won from the breakaway. In the overall standings he is placed fourth, 49 seconds behind race leader Adam Yates and only behind João Almeida and Mattias Skjelmose.

Before the Games he will race the Tour de France, which starts in just over two weeks and where INEOS Grenadiers has a truly great team including Tom Pidcock, Geraint Thomas, Carlos Rodriguez, Michal Kwiatkowski, Laurens De Plus and two more riders that will be decided in the coming weeks.

The Colombian will start as one of the leaders of the British formation. He has finished in the top ten in every stage race he has participated in this year, with great riders present in every one of them, which bodes well for the future.

Daniel Martinez comes from completing a fabulous Giro d'Italia. The Soacha-born rider was the first of the mortals, finishing second overall behind Tadej Pogacar. It was the best grand tour of his career and he was also runner-up in the Volta ao Algarve earlier in the season where he won two stages, preceded by Remco Evenepoel.

The BORA-hansgrohe rider will also participate in the time trial, where he is currently the greatest specialist in the country and probably the second best in history after Santiago Botero. He has won the national championship four times, which makes him the rider who has won it the most times in Colombia. In addition, he will team up again with Bernal, with whom he was already in INEOS between 2021 and 2023, on the road race.

On the women's side, Paula Patiño will be the representative. This season she won the national championship in line, was 9th in the final overall classification of the Vuelta Extremadura and 12th in the Vuelta Ciclista Andalucía. She is 27 years old and rides for Movistar Team from 2019.
