As did Andrea Piccolo, Drone Hopper - Androni Giocattoli teammate Jefferson Alexander Cepeda has signed a contract with EF Education-EasyPost which is having it's start this August as the American team look to secure their position in the World Tour.
The transfer was known already for some weeks, however the nature of which, having immediate effect, comes as a surprise. The 24-year old is a pure climber, winner of the Ecuadorian national championships aswell as the mountainous Le Tour de Savoie Mont Blanc in 2021 - alongside a prestigious fourth place at the Tour of the Alps. This year he went on to complete the Giro di Sicilia in second place behind Damiano Caruso, and rode to fifth at the Adriatica Ionica race.
“I’m pretty calm about next year being my first full season in the WorldTour," Cepeda said in a press release. "I’ve raced on professional teams and have learned a lot. I’m ready for these high level races and to help the team as much as I can.”
“It’s really nice to be on the team with other Ecuadorians. It’s really nice for us to have each other and we help each other. It’s like a little piece of home. I know Jonathan Caicedo really well. We ride together and we know each other really well". In 2023, it is very likely that Cepeda will be teaming up with Ecuador's star Richard Carapaz who's set to join over from INEOS Grenadier.
“It’s quite a team. They’ve got some really good riders and it’s really good there. The team is really well prepared for the races they do and the riders give it their all to get really good results," Cepeda concluded. He will be part of the team's mountain contingent, looking for results of his own in some races aswell likely.
