Trek - Segafredo rider
Edward Theuns concluded the
Le Samyn with a bronze. He finished behind
Milan Menten and Hugo Hofstetter.
"I thought I was the fastest,” he said in the post-race interview. “I am disappointed. We were here with one of the strongest teams. We checked and made the course. In the final we were always represented at the front. At one point we were even with three people.”
Jasper Stuyven was part of the group that launched an attack 20 kilometers before the finish line but was caught by the peloton in the closing stages. "It was also a perfect situation when Jasper drove away in the final."
He was in contention for the win as the race ended with a sprint, but he lost out on the top spot due to a small mistake he made. "In the last kilometre, we were well grouped to start the sprint for me. Unfortunately, I started a little too early. A big mistake on my part, because the whole team was very strong and I couldn't finish it. So I am very disappointed. I thought I was the fastest, but the finish counts and I didn't win,” concluded Theuns.
