Team DSM-Firmenich worked hard throughout the fourth stage of the Vuelta a España to get their sprinter Alberto Dainese to the finish line in Tarragona with a chance of victory. However, the Italian did not have the strength in the final sprint to fight against winner Kaden Groves.
After the stage he could not hide his disappointment to the Eurosport teammates. "The guys worked really well, the finish was technical with a lot of corners, there was a crash too, the guys did a good job with 2 km to go, but when I got to the last corner there was another crash and I didn't have the legs, I'm disappointed because the guys worked hard for me and I didn't reciprocate, but in cycling there are ups and downs."
DSM's best rider on the stage was Sean Flynn, who finished ninth. Dainese had no options at any time and finished the stage in 63rd position. He insisted that his legs had not responded: "It was a bit crazy what happened in the last corner and I didn't have the legs to react".
