EOLO-Kometa's Davide Bais took the biggest win of his career earlier this year at the 2023 Giro d'Italia as he shocked the GC favourites as he led home a three-man breakaway to take a stunning summit finish win atop Gran Sasso d'Italia.
With the 2023 road season now having come to a close, this victory from the Italian remains an outlier as by far the most unlikely victory of the season according to bookmakers' odds. In research done by @Eritropoetina on X (Twitter) Bais' Giro stage win is the clear standout.
Other unlikely victories throughout the year came from, Geoffrey Soupe. The experienced TotalEnergies leadout man sprinting to a stage win at the Vuelta a Espana. Tied for third are a cluster of equally unlikely results such as Pello Bilbao and Michal Kwiatkowski's Tour de France stage wins and Sepp Kuss' overall victory at the Vuelta a Espana.
