Groupama - FDJ have become the latest team to officially confirm their lineup for opening Grand Tour of 2025 - the Giro d'Italia. The French-based outfit are backing their general classification hopeful
David Gaudu as he makes his debut at the Corsa Rosa.
Gaudu, who is set to do a Giro d'Italia - Tour de France double in 2025 all being well, has proven his Grand Tour GC capabilities in the past, finishing 4th at the Tour back in 2022, with three further top 10 finishes at the three week races on his palmares. As he begins his first quest for the Maglia Rosa, the 28-year-old Frenchman can count on the support of loyal domestiques such as
Sven Erik Bystrom,
Clément Davy,
Kevin Geniets,
Lorenzo Germani,
Quentin Pacher,
Enzo Paleni and Remy Rochas.
It's potentially a bit of a risk from Groupama - FDJ to go all-in on Gaudu's general classification challenge, given the Frenchman's hit or miss form over the last couple of years. It could prove a masterstroke though, if Gaudu turns up at the startline with good legs. Only time will tell which of these situations will turn out to be correct.
