Rumors continue about the future of Nairo Quintana in the cycling market. The Colombian, after giving up the option to race this year, is initiating contacts with teams to try to find a place in the 2024 season;
During the fourth stage of the Vuelta a España 2023, Eusebio Unzué, director of Movistar Team, spoke about the return of the talented cyclist from Boyacá. Unzué emphasized the importance of Nairo Quintana returning to compete in the WorldTour and did not rule out the possibility that his team is considering signing him. He praised Quintana's professionalism and dedication in training.
Although it has not been officially confirmed that Movistar is trying to sign Quintana, rumours from Colombian website Antena 2 about possible teams interested in the Colombian have been persistent. Among these teams are AG2R Citroen and Cofidis, who have apparently had contacts to secure the services of the former Arkea team leader.
Both AG2R and Cofidis are looking to take advantage of Quintana's experience and quality in grand tours to improve their position in the cycling world. The possibility that these teams could be promoted to the Pro Continental category is a key factor in the Colombian rider's arrival.
The strategy of both squads is to have a rider of Nairo Quintana's stature to compete for the top spots in the grand tours. Quintana, who has already podiumed in all three major cycling competitions, could be an invaluable asset to Cofidis or AG2R in their quest for greater success on the pro circuit.
