Christophe Laporte joined Team Visma | Lease a Bike back in 2022 and took a big step in his career. Ever since, victories at the European Championships, Tour de France and cobbled classics among others. He recognizes that it's the team's strength that allows him to do so, and is not afraid to sacrifice his own chances if necessary.
"I've been riding for this team for two years and I am happy here. I soon realized that I was not riding for Wout, but with him. With him at my side, I have the best chance of winning big races myself," the Frenchman says in a press release issued by the Dutch team. "I am not afraid to give everything for Wout when the situation demands it. That will probably be the case again next spring."
Collective success is the team's goal, and the next spring is another objective-filled period. The team has not won a monument over the past years, despite it's extreme success. Hence, after winning all Grand Tours in 2023, this becomes a goal just as important. The cobbled classics are the most likely grounds for such a win, as Laporte teams up with a very experienced team with plenty talent. Wout van Aert, Dylan van Baarle, Matteo Jorgenson and Tiesj Benoot will all play a role in this big goal.
Laporte himself, despite often having team responsibilities, has net several high-level wins in 2023, striking also the Europeans which earns him a special jersey throughout most of the upcoming season. He will start his season at the Opening Weekend, lead the team at Strade Bianche and Milano-Sanremo before taking on the cobbled classics block. The Tour de France, as a domestique, is also a target for later in the summer.
