It is not a rumour or a possibility. The 2026 Vuelta a Espana will start in the microstate of Monaco in 2026 and that has been officially confirmed by race organizers.
The small city, in the French Riviera, is located right by the city of Nice which will host this year's Tour de France finale and will host the start of the 2026 Vuelta. Monaco has, in the past, already hosted the Grand Depart of the Tour de France back in 2009 with a time-trial won by Fabian Cancellara.

It makes it sound like either someone is trying to convince him to cancel, change the betting odds, help another rider beat him or take his place or just desperately trying to make news. Most athletes are one-trick ponies (in fact most of the top talents in ANY job!), it is in the nature of an ever more demanding specificity of competing and professionalism. Criticising one of the top 2 or 3 GT riders just for being less good than one of the others is actually POINTLESS, you are in fact encouraging him and all others to not even bother and end up with what would basically be, one man races.
