The 17th stage of the Vuelta a Espana was a day for the breakaway, as Rigoberto Urán returned to his winning ways with a win atop the Monasterio de Tentudía after what could only be described as a lung-sapping effort. In the peloton Remco Evenepoel retained the red jersey as he resisted the offensive of Enric Mas.
The medical report of the day included two riders:
174 - Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates). Contusion with road rash in right knee and ankle.
85 - Kaden Groves (Team BikeExchange - Jayco). Road rash and contusions in right elbow, knee and shoulder.
