France is one of the most interesting teams at the start of the European championships with a lineup packed with sprinters, however their best option must be Arnaud Démare who will be attempting to take the title in Munich.
“I trained well in July and in the Tour de Pologne I reached the level I wanted. The ambition of the French team is nothing less than victory," Démare said in a pre-race interview. "We also have several cards in the battle for the title".
France is a team with many quality sprinters, and they have decided to stack their lineup with plenty fast men. Whether or not there will be mutual collaboration or each to chase their own results is left to be seen, as with UCI points and a strong result on the line, interests may collide. With Rudy Barbier, Bryan Coquard and Hugo Hofstetter - to name a few - besides him France will with no doubt be able to contest a high spot, but it will be difficult to predict how the race will turn out.
"In any case, we are very motivated," he concluded. Démare is one of the big favourites for today's race, and a win at the Europeans would be an ideal way to bounce back from what was a dominant Giro d'Italia which proved the Frenchman still has his best legs on occasion.
