There has been a big blow for
Team SD Worx - Protime ahead of stage 2 at the 2025
Itzulia Women as
Anna van der Breggen has been forced to abandon the stage race following a crash on the opening day, diminishing their team of their main general classification hope.
Although the legendary Dutchwoman did get back onto her bike after the crash and finish the opening stage over 40 seconds down on her stage winning teammate
Mischa Bredewold in 75th place, Van der Breggen's injuries have not got any better overnight, and as such, the 35-year-old will not take to the start line on stage 2.
"Anna van der Breggen will not start today's second stage of Itzulia Women. She is still too much affected by her heavy fall in the final of the first stage. After the fall, she did manage to reach the finish in Agurain on Friday. This morning it was examined whether she could still continue the race, but in consultation with the team's medical staff it was decided that it would be wiser for the former world champion not to continue the race," writes the official social media page of Team SD Worx - Protime ahead of stage 2.
