Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier signs a last-minute contract extension for 2024 with Lidl-Trek

Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier's cycling career seemed to be hanging by a thread, but at the last minute, the 29-year-old Eritrean was given an opportunity to continue at the WorldTour level for one more year in the Lidl-Trek jersey.

"I am of course very happy that I have the opportunity to further utilize my experience at Lidl-Trek. Over the years I have always felt comfortable within this team, together with my teammates and staff. It was a priority for me to continue my career with this team. I am very happy that I finally received a contract extension."

The current Eritrean ITT champion hopes to find his best legs again in his seventh season at the highest level. "I feel good and the desire to make my mark is strong. I will use the experience I have gained over the years to get the best out of myself, demonstrate my talent and prove that I can be an important part of the team."

Team manager Luca Guercilena is also satisfied with this turn of events. "Amanuel is a late but valuable addition to our 2024 squad. He has already shown his dedication in recent years. We were still looking for an extra climbing domestique and Amanuel was a logical choice. We hope he will make the most of this opportunity and make the team and its Eritrean fans proud."
