World champion, Mathieu van der Poel's returning to road racing has now been officially confirmed for Milano-Sanremo on Saturday as Alpecin-Deceuninck become the latest team to announce their lineup for the race.
The first monument of the year, van der Poel is diving into his 2024 season right in the deep end. After winning the race last year however and coming off another incredibly dominant winter of cyclocross, the Dutch superstar will understandably be full of confidence.
With Jasper Philipsen and Soren Kragh Anderson, Alpecin-Deceuninck have either two super domestiques for van der Poel or two riders who could hold winning ambitions of their own as viable plan-B's for the team.
Tadej Pogacar and Mathieu van der Poel going head to head is a mouth watering prospect for any cycling fan out there, and with the likes of Mads Pedersen, Filippo Ganna, Tom Pidcock and Matej Mohoric among others also throwing their respective hat in the ring, this year's Milano-Sanremo could be a very exciting edition.
