"All in all, it is a great experience" - Jonas Vingegaard wraps up perfect Vuelta a Espana

Jonas Vingegaard has concluded his second Grand Tour of the season, finishing second at the Vuelta a Espana. It was the first time he's done so in one season, and very successfully, having the legs to win both, but supporting teammate Sepp Kuss to victory in Spain.

"A strong leading group broke away, so we still had to ride quite fast. That was tough, but we reached the finish and everything went well," Vingegaard told TV2. "The fact that we reached Madrid in first, second and third place is just insanely cool. All in all, it is a great experience." He then managed to enjoy moments on the podium of the Spanish race, both as second placed rider and teams classification winner alongside Jumbo-Visma.

The Dane proved his worth once more in the mountainous terrain of the Vuelta. Moreover, even without the ideal preparation, Vingegaard has proven to be able to handle two Grand Tours in a row at a very high level. His presence was a part of the Dutch team's success. “Normally I'm standing there, next to the stage, watching these two guys triumph next to me. I am proud and honored to have been at their side in the Giro and the Tour, and now in the Vuelta."

"It was a bizarre three weeks and I could never have done it without their support and that of the entire team. In addition to being good riders, they are beautiful people," he concluded. 2024 still lays far away, it's unsure whether the Dane will end his season here, but the goals have been achieved.
