Davide Ballerini has tested positive for the coronavirus and can therefore not start in the Tour de La Provence. The Italian is, after Kasper Asgreen, already the second rider of Quick-Step-Alpha Vinyl to miss the French stage race for this reason.
Asgreen tested positive for the coronavirus on Monday. As a result, Quick-Step-Alpha Vinyl took measures. "Our internal testing protocol revealed a positive coronavirus test for Davide Ballerini, as a result, the team will start with five riders in the Tour de La Provence."
This means that Julian Alaphilippe, Dries Devenyns, Pieter Serry, Ilan Van Wilder and Louis Vervaeke will be the only five riders from Quick-Step-Alpha Vinyl. The tour starts on Thursday and ends on Sunday.
Arkéa-Samsic also reported on Wednesday that it had to cancel due to a corona attack. Romain Hardy will therefore miss the Tour de La Provence.
