With Remco Evenepoel making his Tour de France debut next month, the Belgian could secure the biggest win of his career by taking the Maillot Jaune. Whether he does or not, later this summer, you could then ride alongside the Soudal - Quick-Step leader yourself.
On Saturday, August 10, four distances are available for the second-ever R.EV Ride (part of the Proximus Cycling Challenge), which starts and ends in Schepdaal, the home town of the reigning time-trial world champion. The distances are 55, 85, 130, and 170 kilometres and the routes pass through the Pays des Collines, the Wall of Gerardsbergen, the Bosberg, and the Congoberg in the Flemish Ardennes.
“The initiative is particularly close to my heart,” says Evenepoel in quotes collected by Het Laatste Nieuws once his participation in the event was announced officially. “After two busy months, with the Tour de France and the Olympic Games, it will be a great opportunity to ride my training routes together with my supporters. I look forward!"
Ahead of his Tour de France debut, Evenepoel will warm-up and test his legs after a crash at the Itzulia Basque Country earlier this year at the Criterium du Dauphine. Although recent Giro d'Italia winner Tadej Pogacar will start the Tour de France as overwhelming pre-race favourite, Evenepoel will be alongside the likes of Primoz Roglic and potentially Jonas Vingegaard, who also is attempting to return from his own crash, as Pogacar's main rivals.
