6-month prison sentence for man who aggressively robbed Philippe Gilbert and pointed air gun at his wife and kids

It has been revealed that the now retired Classics legend, Philippe Gilbert was aggressively robbed whilst being threatened by an air gun in front of his wife and children earlier this year.

According to La Dernière Heure, Gilbert was overtaken and then attacked whilst driving in his car by a 20-year-old who has prior convictions. Gilbert's alertness and presence of mind amidst the chaos however, has now seen the man in question sentenced to six months in prison.

Despite the traumatic and obviously scary event that was taking place, the former World Champion, four-time Amstel Gold Race winner and seven-time Vuelta a Espana stage winner - among many other accolades - managed to keep his cool and write down the license plate of the vehicle as it sped away and partially record the incident.

This evidence proved vital in tracking down the unnamed assailant, who has also now been banned from owning weapons and seen his driver's license revoked.
