2024 Vuelta a Espana GC Update after stage 10: Ben O'Connor ticks off another day in red as big names keep their powder dry of first test of week 2

Stage 10 of the Vuelta a Espana 2024 resumed the race after the first rest day. The possibility that the general classification could be modified on a course like Tuesday's was not the highest, but it was not ruled out either.

Ben O'Connor started the second week with the red jersey that he got with his victory from the breakaway in stage 6. Behind him, Primoz Roglic, Richard Carapaz, Enric Mas and Mikel Landa aimed to be his main threats of the day. The Movistar Team rider, especially, due to his great sensations in the last days of the first week.

Although EF Education-EasyPost stepped up the pace in the peloton on the final climb to the Alto de Mougás to put Richard Carapaz in a good position to attack, Decathlon managed to quickly neutralize the US team's intentions, keeping Ben O'Connor and his red jersey lead safe for another day.

In the end, the whole stage was marked by the breakaway of Wout van Aert, where Marc Soler also made an appearance until the final 30 km when the Belgian launched an attack that only Quentin Pacher could follow. There was no chance for the fight for the general classification to break out, and all the favourites maintained the same gap they had before the start of the day.
