Team Visma | Lease a Bike have a super talent in Matthew Brennan and the 19-year old has taken his third World Tour victory at the Tour de Romandie this afternoon on stage 1, being by far the strongest in the final bunch sprint.
The hilly day with finale in Fribourg presented a lot of climbs, but they were ultimately not used to create GC chaos. Ben Zwiehoff, Enzo Paleni, Gerben Kuypers, Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier and Silvan Dillier formed the day's breakaway; whilst Zwiehoff and Kuypers were the ones that survived the 11% climb out front, then holding back the peloton that remained rather calm.
It was a day that was expected to have some action, but the truth is it was a conservative peloton the whole way and a bunch sprint would come to be. On the final hilltop in Fribourg there weren't attacks, and it came down to a sprint with Matthew Brennan launching his sprint first and taking a very impressive and dominant victory. He was joined by Aurélien Paret-Peintre and Artem Schmidt on the final podium.
