VIDEO: Wout van Aert fined during last year's holidays in Italy!

The 2024 season was one to forget for Wout van Aert. His crash at Dwars door Vlaanderen already meant he had to give up on all the major Classics as well as Tour de France. When the Belgian returned at Vuelta a Espana, it seemed like he was back to his best self... but then another crash forced him to abandon. That was Van Aert's signal to call the season finished.

Later that September, Van Aert with his wife went onto holidays to Pinzolo, a picturesque village in Trento. In an Instagram post afterwards, the Belgian couple posted a short video of Van Aert metaphorically (and literally) throwing his crutches into a waste containter.

Unfortunately for Van Aert, that container was not where his crutches belonged and the local authorities picked up on the camera footage of his actions. Even though the Belgian reportedly later took his crutches out of the container, he was still shipped a fine all the way to Belgium, according to HLN. Van Aert apparently paid the sum without protest.
