On Sunday, December 10th, the Sportsman of the Year will be honored at the Sports Awards in Zurich. Six finalists in male and female category have been determined. Cycling is represented by
Marlen Reusser and
Nino Schurter.
The twelve nominated athletes represent six sports. Ski racer Odermatt could win the award for the third time in a row. The two-time overall World Cup winner will be challenged by decathlete Simon Ehammer, wrestler Samuel Giger, hurdler Jason Joseph, freeskier Andri Ragettli and mountain bike Olympic champion Nino Schurter, who won the award in 2018 after his triumph at the World Championships in Lenzerheide.
Among the women, last year's winner Mujinga Kambundji is not the only nominee who has already won the award in the past. However, Lara Gut-Behrami's award was seven years ago. In addition to the duo, Jasmine Flury (alpine skiing), Mathilde Gremaud (freestyle skiing), Mujinga Kambundji's younger sister Ditaji Kambundji (athletics) and Olympic medalist Marlen Reusser are also available.
The awards will be presented on December 10th as part of a TV show in Zurich. In the program, which is broadcast live on the SRG channels, viewers can help determine the winner via televoting. The pre-selection of the six nominees was made by top Swiss athletes and the sports editors of the Swiss media.
