Matej Mohoric crashes out of recon for UCI Gravel World Series in Girona, casting doubt on World Championship hopes

Having only announced on Thursday that Matej Mohoric would be donning his Rainbow Jersey for the final time this season at the upcoming UCI Gravel World Series in Girona, Bahrain - Victorious have now updated with some sad news of a crash for the Slovenian during his recon.

"Unfortunately, Matej Mohoric had a tough crash during the recon of the course of the UCI Gravel World Series Sea Otter Europe Girona. Due to his injuries, he won’t be able to race on Saturday," the team announces sadly via their official social media pages. "He’ll return home to recover and focus on the upcoming Gravel World Championships."

It's that last sentence that has more potential to cause concern. Mohoric is set to join the likes of Primoz Roglic and Tadej Pogacar representing Slovenia at the 2024 road World Championship in Switzerland on the 29th of September, before then attempting to take a second straight gravel World Championship triumph on October 6th.

At the time of writing, no news of any withdrawals have been announced, neither has a further update to any injuries sustained by Mohoric. If and when any updates are posted in this regard, we will, as always, do our best to keep you up to date!
