The Strawberry Cross in Merksplas will look different on Saturday. The rainy weather forced the organization to move a strip of 100 meters that didn't seem to rideable anymore.
"The riders would not have gotten out of the mud," volunteer Frans Hillen told RTV.
The Superprestige circuit in Merksplas consists of a mix of meadows, dirt roads, forest paths and cobblestones. However, the heavy rain in recent days has made the course particularly difficult. So hard in fact that the organization felt forced to adjust the course.
"We would use a corn field twice, in two directions, but that is no longer possible. We had to renovate that," Hillen explains. "It really couldn't be done in both directions. I'm sure some riders would have gotten stuck there otherwise, they wouldn't have gotten out."
