Results Superprestige Overijse 2026 - Michael Vanthourenhout storms to fourth win in five starts as Lucinda Brand defies back trouble in series opener
Cyclocross
Michael Vanthourenhout has won the Superprestige season opener in Overijse, claiming his fourth victory in five starts after escaping on the seventh of nine laps. Lucinda Brand also delivered a commanding solo win, returning from the back trouble that kept her out of Saturday’s race in Heerde.
Vanthourenhout strikes after Kuypers and Wyseure crash
Vanthourenhout recovered from a poor start and waited through repeated regroupings before making his winning move. Cameron Mason and Gerben Kuypers had forced the early pace, while Kevin Kuhn and Witse Meeussen also put the favourites under pressure without establishing a lasting advantage.
Nine riders entered the final three laps together before Kuypers attacked uphill. He opened a small gap but crashed heavily on an asphalt descent, with Joran Wyseure falling behind him. Both were taken out of contention.
Vanthourenhout then accelerated on a climb. Kuhn and defending Superprestige champion Niels Vandeputte initially tried to follow, but neither could hold his wheel. A six-second gap grew to 27 by the bell, leaving Meeussen, Kuhn, Vandeputte and Mason fighting behind him.
Meeussen’s final-lap pressure distanced Mason and stretched Vandeputte, before a problem with Kuhn’s clipless pedal disrupted the Swiss champion’s podium challenge. Vandeputte regained contact with Meeussen as Vanthourenhout completed his third Overijse victory, adding to his wins in 2022 and 2025.

Brand rides clear as Alvarado struggles
Brand won ahead of Aniek van Alphen and Inge van der Heijden after breaking away on the third lap. Saturday’s Heerde winner Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado finished eighth.
Van Alphen and Van der Heijden briefly opened a gap approaching lap three, but Brand quickly closed them down with Amandine Fouquenet following. The world champion then increased the pace on the climbs, first distancing Fouquenet before leaving the two Dutchwomen behind.
Her advantage grew from five seconds at halfway to 15 with two laps remaining. A stumble at the barriers failed to halt her progress, while Van Alphen eventually shook off Van der Heijden to secure second.
Alvarado spent the race chasing after a slow start. Ten seconds behind after the opening lap, she continued to lose ground and ultimately held off Julie Brouwers for eighth. Fouquenet finished fourth ahead of Denise Betsema and Kristyna Zemanova, with Alicia Franck seventh.
Brand’s victory earned her 15 points and the first Superprestige lead, one ahead of defending series champion Van Alphen and seven clear of Alvarado.

- yeah I don’t think so. Tadej’s accident was really no big deal relatively speaking. a couple of broken bones.mij25-10-2026
- Froome was super old compared to Tadej, and his crash was SO much worse. Not even a comparison. Jonas’s crash was also much worse. As was Bernal’s. Tadej had a concussion, broken collar bone, and a stable fracture of a vertebra. Terrible for sure, but NOTHING compared to what the other guys went through. Tadej was healed and ready for Euros, but why bother. Had it been a bigger appointment, and 2 weeks of training, he would have been there and won. Tadej’s accident was a freak thing on the road, in the peloton, happens to all of them. The other accidents were all super high speed and much scarier. Froome lost tons of blood. Bernal needed spinal fusion and had a 95% chance of being paralyzed. Jonas had a collapsed lung. the only scary thing in Tadej’s accident was the vertebrae, but replace that with a wrist and this is no big deal. it was a stable vertebrae so no real risk. people are just trying to create drama. there is no comparison in these accidents.mij25-10-2026
- for the team DNA of winning or finishing on the podium of a GT, they need to hire a rider capable of that. Finishing 4th and 5th doesnt prove anything, on the other hands Felix Gall finishing 2 and 3rd in the same season does.abstractengineer25-10-2026
- No, you said "he cannot win the Tour". That's not a quality statement. It's a statement of possibility. Look at the 2014 Tour for more about crashes showing what's possible.acem8225-10-2026

leedorney25-10-2026 - All key riders are old and ageing fast and downward trajectory at visma and visma clearly sinking fast..Something clearly is rotten at visma by looking everyone who breaks contract from coaches to staff to riders so this would lowkey benefit jonasmiguel25-10-2026

- Now that G is out of the races he doesn't mind risking GC positions, A GC race makes it very tightly control along with the sprinters teams and you will not get the spectacle.abstractengineer25-10-2026
