Lucinda Brand beats Fem Van Empel to take victory in Exact Cross Meulebeke

Lucinda Brand has won the Exact Cross Meulebeke. She beat Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal duo Fem Van Empel and Denise Betsema to secure the victory.
Van Empel had a nice start, soon, Ceylon del Carmen Alvarado joined her, and both of them created a gap with the rest of the pack. But Brand was not going to let them get away easily, she trailed them with a three seconds delay. Brand was riding with Inge van der Heijden, Aniek van Alphen and Denise Betsema.

Brand increased the pace and only Van Empel could follow her in the fourth lap but soon Van der Heijden, Alvarado and Betsema joined them. Van Empel once again got a chance to take lead in the sandy stretch. Brand struggled here a bit while Empel was busy creating a gap.
But Brand made comeback in the later laps and reduced the gap to only 10 seconds. Betsema followed soon. The race entered the final lap and it was sprint between Brand and Van Empel which decided the winner. Brand came out on top while Van Empel got the silver. Betsema took the bronze.

- I assume Plapp will be about as popular as a fart in a gas mask this season on the team bus. What an absolute clown shoe. Attacking his own team-mate with a lap and a half to go, bringing back his rivals with you, then fluffing it yourself to let the other guy win. Youβd assume that if they had race radios, the DS would be telling Plapp to stop p*sing on Durboβs chips, but at the same time youβd also expect a World Tour rider to understand this kind of basic racecraft. Jonas has a Vuelta, 2 Tours and no Giro, you said it yourself so - Go figure. Has he ruled out the Tour? Am convinced if Tadej decides to do the Giro, Jonas wonβt cancel, itβs nothing to do with dodging, itβs about deciding for himself and not living for others. Jonas has offered plenty of competition to Tadej, itβs not his only purpose or obligation. There are plenty of countries and cultures where it is quite common for people with means to help those with less, family, friends, neighbours, community. Heβs approaching 30 now, doesnβt seem to want to move, or buy a 2nd home back home to declare at least SOME taxes there if not all, as a thank you to all he got as a child that allowed him to find this path?
